Private tutor in Mexico City, Mexico

Education

I have a first class degree in English Literature and language from King's College London, and a distinction at Masters from Goldsmith's College, University of London. Throughout my studies I specialised in cultural artefacts that encourage an understanding of identity politics and applied varied theoretical frameworks such as critical race theory, feminism, geo-philosophy and more generally critical thinking. I was at the top of my class and was praised by my professors for having an acute sense of detail in analysis and a creative approach to the study of culture.

Experience

Along with a strong academic record, I have over eight years of tutoring experience in subjects such as English Literature, English Language, History of Art, Theatre Studies, Film and Media Studies as well as general writing, reading and essay skills from KS3 to postgraduate level. I have worked both as an independent freelance Tutor and as part of tuition companies such as Oxbridge Tutors. In each tutoring role, I have been required to implement different skills, techniques and approaches in accordance to the particular needs of the students and the company I am associated with. In this way, I have developed a style of tutoring that enables me to cultivate and nurture my students academic pursuits in a variety of ways. I also have a plethora of experience working as an EFL teacher. I achieved my TEFL qualification five years ago and have since experienced great success within this area, teaching both at home and abroad in several countries including Sri Lanka, Mexico and Kenya. In each of these roles I worked with both adults and children and provided a high level of language and grammatical tuition whilst also implementing knowledge of English culture and business. Teaching English as foreign language requires a huge amount of patience and flexibility and through these experiences I have garnered high levels of interpersonal skills and communication skills that are necessary for articulating with clarity and confidence to students learning a new language. I am enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to developing knowledge, exploring curiosities and pursuing a career in education. I hope to fuel inquisitive minds and incite curiosity, imagination and success in all my pupils whilst also presenting creative alternatives to traditional teaching structure. I hope you will consider my application.

Hobbies

I am fascinated by culture, and look to it as a means of understanding the complex ways in which identities are constructed and experienced. In my professional life, I have worked in some of the most prestigious and renowned cultural institutes in London including the Tate, Southbank Centre, and Somerset House. Each of these roles allowed me to indulge my interest in culture, as well as develop my understanding of how culture operates in society. In my spare time I like to read, visit galleries, listen and play music, and write. I also have many other passions including dancing, cooking and learning languages.
